Part of the High School burned down last Tuesday night. Another teacher called Dave in the middle of the night to tell him not to go to school in the morning because the school was on fire. Dave rode his bike to the school to make sure his classroom was ok, but it was on fire when he got there. His room and the other science teacher's room were the last to burn, so he thinks some of his stuff might still be in there. But the roof collapsed, so there is probably no way he could get to it. He did manage to get a few things out.
Do you think they might be usable?
This picture is what's left of Dave's room.
We had gone shopping at Sam's Club over the Christmas break, and bought a lot of food for him to sell in his classroom, at at the basketball concession stand. There were a couple 20 pound bags of popcorn- we were wondering if they popped? Wouldn't that be interesting to see! But it was in the back of his room (with all the other food), and it is now buried under the collapsed roof.Through those red doors was Dave's room.
He had a lot of fun stuff in that room that is now gone. We saved Carly's placenta in a jar when she was born- it is burned up now. He had 5 years worth of lesson plans, tests, worksheets, powerpoints, and other stuff stored in file cabinets, and on the computer at school. It is all gone now. He has to start all over.
Dave was taking it really hard, and was very upset. He is doing a little better now. School was canceled for the whole district, but it is supposed to start again tommorrow(Tuesday).
We will see!

I was sad when I heard his class had burnt down. That's one of the big things I thought about...teachers losing all of their plans, papers, etc. What a lot of work to replace all of those files! I'm glad he's feeling a little better now!
What a life experience, huh? I'm so sorry, but hopefully something good will come of it later.
That's really sad. We feel terrible for Dave.
How sad! The pictures really tell it all. I can't imagine loosing everthing from the past 5 years, that would be depressing!
Oh my gosh, that is awful! Poor Dave!
Oh no how awful! How did it start do they know?
Has he been able to salvage anything? Now that things have settled down and cooled off, have they been allowed to search through the rubble to see if anything survived?
I haven't heard for sure how it started, but they were thinking a heater or something electrical.
Dave has pretty much given up on getting anything out. They won't let them go through it because there is asbestos.
