Last week on Thursday I was out feeding the horse when the dogs started barking and running. I looked up and saw a bear where our garden is going to be. The dogs kept barking and it slowly walked away.
Then on Saturday, Carly and Dallin were playing with some kids at the cabin down the road. Dave and I were outside working when we heard the kids shouting, but we thought they were just playing. A little while later the guy at the cabin came with the kids and his shotgun and said the kids had come running back and said there was a bear chasing our chickens. We didn't believe them, but went and looked, and there on the side of the hill was a bear eating one of our chickens. The guy shot his gun to scare the bear away, and the bear slowly wandered away with the chicken in his mouth.
Dave called a friend to see if he was allowed to shoot the bear, and he told him he could shoot any animal who kills or threatens our livestock. We didn't want the bear to keep coming back for more chickens, or get our colt, or our kids, so Dave took our hound dog, and went and found the bear. The bear was still on the hill, just a little ways up, not scared of anything, so Dave killed it.
Then he brought it home and skinned it and got some meat out. On Sunday he called the Game and Fish Guy, who came and said he had to take everything away. So he took the head, paws, skin, and was going to take the meat (but Dave and he started talking for a while and he forgot). I am sad we didn't get to keep the fur, I wanted to make a fur rug out of it.
Colton really wanted his picture taken with it.
I took a picture of what was left of the chicken for proof.

Wow! How big do you think it was?
Wow! Never a dull moment on the ranch! Glad the only thing it got was a chicken!
Wow! Sounds like life is an adventure!
